Watershed Conditions : Flood Outlook Statement

October 31, 2019

The Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) is issuing a Flood Outlook Statement for the RRCA jurisdiction.  A Flood Outlook Statement is notice of potential flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, high wind or other conditions that could lead to high runoff, flooding or erosion.

The short-term weather forecast is predicting in excess of 40 mm of precipitation in the next 24 hours. River water levels throughout the region are higher than normal for this time of year and the ground is still wet from the significant precipitation over the past week.

The Raisin River, Rigaud River, Delisle River, Garry River and Beaudette River could see water levels typically observed in the spring and flooding may occur in low-lying areas. Water levels may also continue to rise 24-36 hours after the rain has ended.  Roadside ditches may also be overtopped if culverts become blocked with leaves and debris.

Caution should be exercised when near waterbodies. Parents should inform their children of the risks and provide appropriate supervision.

The RRCA will continue to monitor water levels and weather forecasts as part of the Flood Forecasting and Warning program and will provide updates if conditions change.

This statement is in effect until Monday, November 4, 2019.   The RRCA will continue to monitor water levels and weather forecasts as part of the Flood Forecasting and Warning program and will provide updates as conditions change.
