TD Bank Group and RRCA Work Together to Plant Trees at Gray’s Creek

September 10, 2019

The Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) is helping TD Bank Group again this year to host a TD Tree Days event at Gray’s Creek Conservation Area on September 21.

“We are recruiting volunteers from the community to help us plant 300 native trees and shrubs along the shores of Gray’s Creek and the St. Lawrence River,” says Lissa Deslandes, RRCA’s Community Liaison.  “The shoreline trees and shrubs, known as a riparian buffer, will help protect the river and creek from pollutants.”

Gray’s Creek Conservation Area is located at 18045 County Road 2 at the boundary of South Glengarry and Cornwall.  The tree planting will begin at 9am and wrap up by noon.

This planting event is contributing to the Bank's goal of planting 1 million trees by 2030 as part of its corporate citizenship platform, The Ready Commitment. “TD Bank Group is proud to work with the RRCA again this year.  While helping plant trees, volunteers will learn tree identification, tree planting technique and the importance of trees in a healthy community,” says Samara Arcand, TD Tree Days Site Leader.

Anyone looking to help improve their local environment is welcome to participate!  Volunteers are invited to register at https://www.tdtreedays.com/.

In addition to community tree planting projects, the RRCA works with landowners to reforest idle or vacant land and provides over-the-counter tree sales.  “We are currently planning our 2020 tree planting projects.  Landowners, teachers, businesses, municipalities, and community groups are encouraged to reach out to us soon with any tree planting projects they have planned for next year,” adds Deslandes.  Contact us today to learn about available tree planting funding opportunities!
