The Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) is exploring “fat biking” opportunities on trail systems within the RRCA watershed.  Fat biking is an off-road bicycle with oversized tires designed for riding on unstable terrain such as snow, sand and dirt. Fat biking is most popular in the winter and is surging in Ontario right now with more and more trails offering this winter-biking activity for the all year trail rider. This grant from Union Gas will help the RRCA with the purchase of equipment to groom trails for this type of activity.

“We are excited to attract more people to our local trail systems in the winter” states Richard Pilon, RRCA General Manager. “Fat biking is a great way to stay fit in the wintertime”. RRCA staff will be exploring this opportunity over the coming months and have recently held discussions with SDG County staff and members of the Friends of Summerstown Trails”.

Blair Hiseler, Union Gas Utility Services Field Supervisor for Cornwall, presented the cheque to RRCA General Manager Richard Pilon and Communications Coordinator Lissa Deslandes on August 27th at Gray’s Creek Conservation Area.

“At Union Gas, we believe a community belongs to everyone who lives there,” said Blair. “We want to make life better for our families, our friends, and our neighbours. We’re proud to support the Raisin Region Conservation Authority, to improve access to local trails in the Raisin Region watershed.”
